<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide and long oriented film effectively useful for optical compensation in a liquid crystal display apparatus with high use efficiency, to provide a method for manufacturing a wide and long oriented film having uniform thickness in the width direction and having an in-plane lagging axis in a direction greatly inclined from the width direction, and to provide a liquid crystal display device which has the oriented film and is excellent in visibility. <P>SOLUTION: The long oriented film has the film width of 1,300 nm or more and an in-plane lagging axis in a direction inclined by 51 to 85° angle from the width direction of the film, with deviation of the lagging axis being within 1° over the entire width of the film. The film is made of a transparent resin characterized in that a coefficient Nz represented by Nz=(n<SB>x</SB>-n<SB>z</SB>)/(n<SB>x</SB>-n<SB>y</SB>) is 1.3 or less, wherein n<SB>x</SB>represents the refractive index in the direction of the in-plane lagging axis, n<SB>y</SB>represents the refractive index in a direction orthogonal to the in-plane lagging axis in the plane, and n<SB>z</SB>represents the refractive index in the thickness direction, for light at 550 nm wavelength. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
