PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical communication module that is compact by directly connecting an optical fiber without using an optical connector and reducing the number of components, and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The optical communication module comprises a resin layer having a groove-like guide part connecting the optical fiber on a substrate, and a cap for holding the optical fiber. The method for manufacturing the optical communication module comprises mounting an optical semiconductor element at every conductor pattern on the substrate forming a plurality of the conductor patterns of optical communication module units, simultaneously forming the groove-like guide part connecting the optical fiber with the resin layer, cutting them into the optical communication module units, and attaching the cap.
