PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module improved in the degree of freedom in designing related to thinning in its optical axis direction, and accurately performing the position control of a lens over a long term. SOLUTION: The optical module is equipped with: a lens holding body 22 holding a lens group 21; a motor 13 having an output shaft 13b extended in a direction orthogonal to the optical axis of the lens group 21 and rotating the output shaft 13b; and a transmission mechanism 53 converting the rotation of the output shaft 13b into translation in the optical axis direction to transmit to the lens holding body 22. The optical module has a cam gear 56 which rotates around an axis nearly parallel with the optical axis and where gear parts 56a and 56b are formed in the transmission mechanism 53. Then, a part to be detected 56f and the cam part 56b are arranged in this order from the inside of the center of rotation of the cam gear 56. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
