PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silent chain which can suppress noise caused by vibrations in a free span region, prevent the occurrence of steps in a sprocket teeth due to wear and avoid the increase in the number of components. SOLUTION: In the silent chain 1, a plurality of link plates 4 are superimposed by being shifted in the longitudinal direction of the chain. Guide plates 8 formed of steel are arranged outermost on the chain to be coupled to each other by a coupling pin 7. A protrusion 10 abutting on the link plate 4 is formed on the inner surface of the guide plate 8. The link plate 4 is biased and pressed toward the center from both sides by the protrusions 10 through spring function of the guide plate 8. By so doing, the relative rotation of the link plates 4 is regulated. As a result, vibrations and noise of the chain in a free span region can be suppressed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
