A simple method for fitting a door handle to a door system has a surround ring housing (10) fitted to the door, e.g. by screw fasteners (17) and holding the door handle return spring system as well as a ratchet grip (36) for securing the mechanism. A cover housing (50) has cut outs (52) to enable an operator to insert a screwdriver to push back the ratchet and withdraw the mechanism and handle axially. The housing is covered by a decorative bezel (28) secured with a simple ratchet grip.
