The method for treatment of vapors in dish washing appliances entails drawing off vapors from the washing chamber (40), transporting the vapors through a heat exchanger (80), wherein the vapors are cooled, and discharging the vapors cooled in the heat exchanger to the environment. The stage which involves drawing off the vapors from the washing chamber is carried out long enough for a volume to be drawn off which corresponds at least to the volume of the washing chamber. An independent claim is included for a dish washing appliance with a washing chamber, a device (60) for drawing off the vapors from the washing chamber, a heat exchanger, a device for transporting of the vapors through the heat exchanger, and a device (100) of discharging the cooled vapors to the environment.
