<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device of high output without dropping radiant power output. <P>SOLUTION: The light emitting device is provided with a light emitting element 105 having a polygonal outline, a support having a recess where the light emitting element 105 is arranged at a base, and a metal member installed on a side wall face of the recess. The side wall face of the recess has at least a first side wall face 301 and a second side wall face 302, whose distances with the light emitting element 105 differ if viewed from an opening direction of the recess.
