PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent positional deviation in the acting position of a luminous flux branching means from exerting an influence upon precision of focusing, without increasing the scale of a system. SOLUTION: A focusing system includes; a luminous flux branching means 103 which is disposed between a lens for imaging a subject luminous flux on an imaging surface and the imaging surface and is provided with a reflection face for separating the subject luminous flux outside an imaging optical path; a light reception means 112 which receives the subject luminous flux separated by the luminous flux branching means to obtain a signal for focus adjustment of the lens; and holding means 201 and 204 which hold the luminous flux branching means in either of the acting position where the luminous flux branching means is placed within the imaging optical path and a retreat position where it retreats from the imaging optical path. The holding means hold the luminous flux branching means so that it can be moved in a direction approximately parallel to the light reception means within a plane orthogonal to the imaging optical axis.
