PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of an image defect such as dot omission in next printing even when power supply is interrupted unexpectedly or when a user replaced a print head under a state where power is not supplied yet and replaced an ink tank. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder comprises a means for moving a print head up to a print head replacing position and replacing the print head, a means for recovering the print head by performing preliminary ejection or suction, a means for detecting the position where the print head exists, and a control means for changing the type of a print head recovered by the recovery means based on the position of the print head detected by the means for detecting the existing position of print head, and the print head replacing position when a power supply means supplies power under a state where power is not supplied yet.
