PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly carry out image display in a display apparatus of a small number of pixels using an image signal of a large number of pixels. SOLUTION: An electronic camera performs charge storage in an imaging element 2 according to an imaging instruction, stores a swept out image signal in a memory 8, and is also used for reproduction display by the display apparatus 7 and recording in a recording medium 13. In processing for the reproduction display, after reduction processing to the image signal, color interpolation processing is carried out. In the reduction processing, the image signal is thinned out by a sub-pixel unit, then color information of the sub-pixel is made not to change by the reduction processing. Processing for recording to the recording medium 13, the color interpolation processing is carried out for the color signal which is stored in the memory 8, and is not subjected to the reduction processing.
