PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing method and a device that target reduction of total power consumption by reducing the power consumption during recording medium feeding and eliminating power supply in standby mode and obtain images of stable and high quality. SOLUTION: For the fixing method of fixing a toner image on a recording medium by heating the recording medium to which the toner image has been transferred while clamping and conveying the recording medium with a pair of belts 22 and 23 extended among rollers 20, 21, 24, ..., a guide roller G which has small mass is provided on an inner peripheral side of the fixing belt 22 where the guide roller comes into contact with the toner image and on a side where the guide roller slides on the other belt 23. The recording medium to which the toner image has been transferred is clamped and conveyed by the belts 22 and 23 while the guide roller G is deformed by sliding on the fixing belt 22.
