PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of machining a magnetic disk substrate, which is free from adverse effect on a product by burrs etc. falling out of the substrate after a blanking procedure, and to provide a machining device for use in the method. SOLUTION: The machining method is composed of a step of picking up and holding the circular substrate 1 over a predetermined time period, and deburring at least an external edge of the circular substrate during the holding. The machining device is composed of a pick-up means 3 for holding the circular substrate, and a deburring means 4 inclusive of deburring guides 40, 41 with which at least the external edge of the circular substrate held by the pick-up means is brought into rolling contact.
