<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the unevenness of image caused during image formation by reducing the number of gears used to transmit drive force from respective drive sources to a plurality of photoreceptors and a medium support means, thereby reducing the cumulation of backlash caused by the engagement of the gears. <P>SOLUTION: The gears are mounted on the rotary shafts of the plurality of photoreceptor drums 56 and close to the end faces of the drums so as to alternate on the right and left sides. In addition, a gear is mounted on the rotary shaft of a conveying-belt drive roller 65 and close to the end face of the roller. The gear on the photoreceptor drum 56 located closest to the conveying-belt drive roller 65 and the gear on the conveying-belt driver roller 65 are mounted on the opposite end faces of the drum. Disposing the gears in such positions makes it possible to make the radius of each gear larger than the outside diameter of the rotary shaft of the drum or roller adjacent to the center of the gear, leading to a smaller gear pitch.
