PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide magnesium oxide powder having a low impurity content, easily treatable, having excellent operability, and usable as the raw material for forming the protective film of a dielectric layer in a color plasma display panel, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The magnesium oxide powder comprises the primary particle of crystal magnesium oxide and the secondary grain obtained by aggregation of a plurality of the primary grains. The average particle diameter of the powder is 0.5 to 10μm, and the BET specific surface area is 0.1 to 3 m<SP>2</SP>/g. The method for producing magnesium oxide powder comprises a process where magnesium oxalate with a mean particle diameter of 50 to 200μm is fired at 1,200 to 1,400°C. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
