The device (2) has a display to display variable information such as map (11), and a touch screen arranged above the display to input commands by touching the screen or by pressing on the screen. A controller is provided to recognize a simultaneous touching of the screen or pressing on the screen at a touching position (30) and at another touching position (31), which is separated from the former position. The controller scales the information depending on a change of the distance (D) between the positions. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an input device.
