<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithographic printing plate precursor of an on-machine development type having a high-visibility image print-out in an imagewise laser exposure stage, capable of coating an image forming layer in high concentration without unevenness, and provide also a novel cyanine dye preferably used in the image-recording layer of the lithographic printing plate precursor and a lithographic printing method using the lithographic printing plate precursor. <P>SOLUTION: The lithographic printing plate precursor includes an image recording layer on a support body, capable of recording an image by laser exposure. After an image is recorded, the lithographic printing plate precursor is mounted on a printing machine without undergoing the development processing step or can perform printing by recording an image after being mounted on the printing machine. The image recording layer contains a cyanine dye including (A) a solvent-soluble group and having an absorption maximum in an infrared wavelength region.
