PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical low pass filter which has optical characteristics equivalent to those of quartz, and is light-weight and low-cost, further whose effect assumes low wavelength dependence, and which utilizes a liquid crystal compound. SOLUTION: The optical low pass filter contains a hardened film formed by hardening a composition containing the liquid crystal compound, wherein molecules of the liquid crystal compound are fixed in a state in which angles between directors and the normal direction of the interface continuously vary in a film thickness direction in the hardened film, and the hardened film has the optical characteristics satisfying an inequality (1): Re(450)/Re(650)<1.25, in the inequality Re(λ) is an in-plane retardation value (unit: nm) atλnm wavelength.
