PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cosmetic excellent in discoloration characteristics under common environment used and capable of moreover improving a decorative property. SOLUTION: The cosmetic comprises a compound containing a rare earth element atom, an atom of element capable of adopting + trivalent or + tetravalent electron configuration and an oxygen atom, namely a compound represented by formula (1): RTO<SB>3</SB>or formula (2): R<SB>2</SB>QO<SB>5</SB>(R is a rare earth element; T is an element capable of adopting + trivalent electron configuration; Q is an element capable of adopting + tetravalent electron configuration).
