The method involves receiving operating data (D) of a compressed air system, and determining a parameter for a state of the system based on the data. The compressed air system is continuously monitored and an imminent malfunction of the system is identified based on the parameter. The compressed air system of a motor vehicle is controlled and a momentary load of the system is reduced and/or limited. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for monitoring a compressed air system of a motor vehicle.
