This invention provides a fixed abrasive wire comprising abrasives (36) fixed to a wire (35), which fixed abrasive wire has high fixing strength. The abrasives are fixed to the wire by subjecting the wire to an electroplating process. A plating solution used in the electroplating process comprises a nickel-containing organic acid or a nickel-containing inorganic acid, a leveling agent, and abrasives. The surface of the electroplating layer (37) has such a shape that a curved-surface protruded part (38) containing an abrasive is protruded from a substantially flat part (39). In this surface shape, when the height of the curved-surface protruded part relative to the surface of the substantially flat part is H, the sectional area in the horizontal direction of the curved-surface protruded part in its part from the height of (1/3)H to the substantially flat part surface is increased. Accordingly, stress concentration is less likely to occur on the part from the substantially flat part to the curved-surface protruded part, and, even when the frictional force caused in a cutting process is applied to the wire, the abrasives are less likely to come off.
