<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and an image processing method capable of easily obtaining an image without artifact such as aureole when compressing the dynamic range of an image to obtain an output image in order to finish the image into a photo print or the like. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus for applying compression processing of the dynamic range of an original image to image data of the original image and including at least two edge saving smoothing filters whose characteristics differ from each other, includes: a blur image generating section that uses at least the two edge saving smoothing filters to apply filtering processing to the image data of the original image for generating blur image data for representing a blur image of the original image; and a processing means that applies compression processing of the dynamic range to the image data of the original image on the basis of the blur image data. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
