PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the cleaning effect of a discharge surface improved, and to make discharge stability improved. SOLUTION: There are provided a liquid discharge head which discharges a liquid i in the state of droplets from discharge openings 27a formed in the discharge surface 23a and causes them to land on an object and a moving mechanism. The moving mechanism has an absorbing member 34 which has elasticity, is brought into contact with the discharge surface 23a of the liquid discharge head 23, and absorbs the liquid i adhering on the discharge surface 23a; and the moving mechanism moves the absorbing member 34 relative to the discharge surface 23a, while keeping it in contact with respect to the discharge surface 23a.
