PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate total management by sharing file management and object management. SOLUTION: In an information storage medium, while a video object VOB including image information is recorded in a video file VF, presence of a non-recorded area in which a new VOB can be recorded is allowed. Information of a file system includes a file entry FE in which a recording position of the VF is described and a file identifier descriptor FID. In a short allocation descriptors (short AD), positional information of corresponding extent is specified by a logical block number, and recording position information on FE corresponding to FID is described in a long AD. The FID contains a descriptor tag which is identification information, and in long and short ADs, the positional information of the extent is specified by a logical block number.
