PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and accurately control generation of wavelength dispersion light at high speed. SOLUTION: The arbitrarily polarized light generating apparatus comprises: a wavelength change-over means 10; a linear polarizer 20; a wavelength board 30 turnably supported in a vertical plane with respect to the optical path of the linear polarizer 20; and a wavelength board driving part 40 which turns the wavelength board 30 and has a continuously rotating motor 44 and a cam mechanism 42 which changes the rotary driving of the continuously rotating motor 44 into the turning action of the wavelength board 30 synchronized with switching time of color filters 14, 16 and 18. The cam mechanism 42 has a multistage angle switching function which fixes the turning angle of the wavelength board 30 correspondingly to the respective filters 14, 16 and 18 for a prescribed period.
