PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate proper friction force in accordance with large or small amplitude of input, that is, reduce friction force when amplitude is small and increase friction force when amplitude is large to obtain the optimum damping force in accordance with large or small amplitude. SOLUTION: This shock absorber is composed of a substantially annular contact part 21 in which a friction body 20 sliding with a piston rod 5 and generating friction force for the piston rod 5 comes into contact with the piston rod 5 when the piston rod 5 slides and remains static and a substantially annular lip part 22 provided adjacent to the contact part and coming into non-contact with the piston rod 5 when the piston rod 5 remains static.
