<p>A novel human cell suitable for mass production of hemagglutinating virus of Japan (HVJ), a method for obtaining the same and their use are disclosed. The human cell is derived from a human kidney tumor cell line, has a doubling time in a logarithmic growth phase of 40 hours or less in suspension culture in a serum-free medium, has good post-freeze recovery, reaches a maximum viable cell density in the suspension culture of 10<SUP>6</SUP> cells/mL or more, and allows HVJ to grow in the cell. The method for obtaining the human cell comprises the steps of cloning a human kidney tumor cell line grown in suspension culture in a serum-free medium and selecting a cell which has a doubling time in a logarithmic growth phase of 40 hours or less in suspension culture in a serum-free medium, has good post-freeze recovery, reaches a maximum viable cell density in the suspension culture of 10<SUP>6</SUP> cells/mL or more, and allows HVJ to grow in the cell from the cloned cells.</p> |
