There is provided an immunological composition that comprises a nucleic acid vector which includes a promoter region operably linked to a coding sequence encoding the human metapneumovirus F antigen or the human metapneumovirus G antigen. The immunological composition is useful for administering to an individual to elicit an immune responce to human metapneumovirus in the individual and for the generation of diagnostic reagents for hMPV.
