PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately move a focus lens to an in-focus position of an object present at target distance. SOLUTION: When a user inputs a predetermined photographing position, a lens position corresponding to the predetermined photographing position is set within the movement range 65 of the focus lens as a reference position A. In the case that the luminance value of the object present in the reference position A is detected and the luminance value is equal to or larger than a threshold, a search range B-C is set with the reference position A as a center on the basis of a position of a zoom lens and a data table 1, the search range B-C is corrected using the peripheral temperature of the focus lens and the data table 2, and a search range D-E after correction is set. A CPU moves the focus lens from one end D to the other end E of the search range D-E and searches an in-focus position while detecting an AF evaluation value by an AF detection circuit.
