PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To hold the position of a switch gear 102 meshing each driving force transmission gear in a plurality of operation modes even when a carriage 13 is separated. SOLUTION: A power transmission switching means 100 comprises a plurality of driving force transmitting sections (an intermittent sheet feed transmission gear 113, a continuous sheet feed transmission gear 114, a lower stage sheet feed transmission gear 121, and a maintenance transmission gear 115) for transmitting power to each of a plurality of operating parts, a switch gear 102 for transmitting power from a drive gear 101 to the driving force transmitting sections alternatively depending on the moving position of the carriage 13 along the main scanning direction, a lever portion 104a in a first block 104 moving contiguously to the switch gear 102, and a position holding means (first, second and third set portions 111, 112 and 108) for holding the moving position of the lever portion 104a along the main scanning direction wherein the position of the switch gear 102 is held even if the carriage 13 separates from the switch gear 102.
