PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact high-performance reduction optical system arranged in a finder optical system for observing a real image on a prescribed image-formation surface through an eyepiece and converting the real image on the image-formation surface into an electronic image, and to provide optical equipment in which the reduction optical system is mounted. SOLUTION: The reduction optical system 2 is arranged in the finder optical system having an observation optical system 1 for observing an erect image through the eyepiece 17 by changing an object image formed on a focusing screen 14 by an objective 11 into the erect image by a pentagonal prism 16, and is constituted of: an optical prism 21 arranged between the pentagonal prism 16 and a lens nearest to an eye point side in the eyepiece 17, dividing an optical path from the optical axis of the observation optical system 1, and totally reflecting divided luminous flux; a photographic lens 22 reforming the image on a solid-state image sensor (imaging element) 24 by a lens having positive refractive power with the luminous flux totally reflected by the optical prism 21 and projected; and the imaging element converting the subject image reformed by the photographic lens 22 into the electronic image.
