PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sintered metal member having high dimensional precision, and also having reduced defects, and to provide its production method at low cost. SOLUTION: A feeder box 6 whose inside is filled with metal powder 10 serving as raw material powder is arranged above a powder packing part 14 formed so as to be divided into the inner circumferential face 11b of a die 11 and the upper end face 13a of a lower punch 13, and the metal powder 10 is packed into the powder packing part 14. One side part 6a of the feeder box 6 is provided with two parts of cuts 7. The feeder box 6 is slid on the upper end face 11a in the die 11, thus the metal powder 16 leaked out from the cuts 7 is fed onto the upper end face 11a of the die 11 and onto the exposed face (upper end face) 10a of the metal powder 10 packed into the powder packing part 14. The forming positions of the cuts 7 in the feeder box 6 coincide with the regions corresponding to the thick parts 3 in the sintered metal member 1. Therefore, a state where the metal powder 16 is further piled up to the parts corresponding to the thick parts 3, of the exposed face 10a is obtained. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
