The invention relates to a device (1) for cooling recirculated gases. The inventive device defines an inlet duct (e1) and an outlet duct (s1) for recirculated gases and comprises a U-shaped heat exchanger (2) consisting of an inlet duct (e2) and an outlet duct (s2). According to the invention, the cooling device comprises a pair intersecting ducts for bypassing the recirculated gases and a distribution manifold which can move between a first position in which the recirculated gases can flow through the exchanger in one direction and a second position in which the recirculated gases can flow through the exchanger in the opposite direction.
