<p>It is possible to provide a data recording technique for effectively performing random access to arbitrary data while suppressing the number of files generated. A recording device is used for recording content data into a recording medium. The recording device includes a judgment unit for receiving inputted content data and identifying its data format, a selection unit for selecting a first recording process for adding the data to an existing file on the recording medium or a second recording process for recording the data as a new file, and a recording unit for recording the data onto the recording medium according to the selected recording process. When the data format of the data identified by the judgment unit is at least partially identical to the data format of the data stored in the existing file in the recording medium, the selection unit selects the first recording process. Otherwise, it selects the second recording process.</p> |
