A snowmobile (110) is disclosed. The snowmobile comprises a frame having a forward portion (113) and a rear portion (116), the frame including a ski (112) supporting the forward portion (113), and the frame including an endless drive track (114); an engine (117) supported in the frame; and a drive train (118) connected to the engine (117) and to the drive track (114). The drive train (118) comprises an engine drive shaft (124) capable of being rotated by the engine (117), the engine drive shaft (124) having a first longitudinal axis; a track shaft (157) having a second longitudinal axis; a sprocket (158) coupled to the track shaft (157) wherein rotation of the track shaft (157) causes rotation of the sprocket (158), and wherein the sprocket (158) drives the endless drive track (114); and a continuously variable transmission (121, 122, 123).
