<p>An operating mechanism for a sliding plug door which comprises a door member being displaceable in a first direction generally parallel to the plane of an opening and in a second direction transversely of the plane of the opening in moving between its open and closed positions, the mechanism comprising: a carrier member 38, 40 for connection to the door member for carrying and moving same, a first guide means 42 supporting and guiding the carrier member 38, 40 for movement parallel to the opening, a second guide means 48, 50 supporting and guiding the first guide means 42 for movement perpendicular to the opening, a third guide means (80, fig.2) constraining the carrier member 38, 40 to a path of movement containing components of parallel and transverse directions, an actuator having an output member moveable substantially in the first direction and the output member of the actuator being connected to the carrier member. The third guide means may be a arcuate slot forming a cam track (82, fig.2) or may be a pivotal linkage (203, fig.8). There may be a single actuator connected to the carrier member 38 of a first door and a second door driven by a pulley system connected to the first door.</p> |
