Caps.-In apparatus for attaching caps to electric lamp bulbs, the cap is held in a holder and the bulb in grippers suspended from a point in line with the axis of the holder, thus facilitating proper alignment of the cap and bulb. The cap 7 is pressed against the holder 3 by a spring 17 attached to a head 13 which also carries a guide 12. In the guide 12 slides a body carrying gimbals 49, the centre of which is in line with the axis of the holder 3. The gimbals 49 carry a body 47 to which are pivoted arms 41, 42 carrying grippers 44, 43. To the arms 41, 42 are also attached toothed quadrants 40, 39 gearing with a rack 38 sliding in the body 47. The body 16 and rack 38 are so actuated by cams 29, 30 on a shaft 28 through rods 24, 20 and levers 21, 19 that when the cap 7 with the bulb has been placed in the holder 3 the grippers 43, 44 withdraw the bulb from the cap, swing by gravity into such a position that the centre of the bulb is in a line with the centre of the cap and of the gimbal 49 and then replace the bulb so centred in the cap. The movement of the bulb is aided by a spring plunger 4 operated from the rod 24 through a lever 33 and rod 35. A series of holders 3 and plungers 4 may be situated in two rings 1, 2 connected by bolts 5 and rotated from the shaft 28 by a Geneva-stop mechanism. |
