The invention relates to an irradiation apparatus, comprising an irradiation chamber (2), radiation sources (4), a shielding gas mechanism (5), a conveyor (19), which is provided with at least one suspension member (20). The suspension member (20) includes a shank, which is rigidly connected to the conveyor for hanging down therefrom and which is provided with a joint (21) flexible in the conveyor's traveling direction. By virtue of a flexible joint, the laydown of an object does not require extra landing or lifting space on floor level.
