A method of controlling a mobile communication device connected to a mobile telecommunication network, the method comprising the steps of: transmitting from the mobile communication device (UE) to a radio network controller (RNC) a request to establish a radio bearer to allow data to be transferred between the network and the mobile communication device, and, after a set holding time has passed, transmitting a further request if the radio bearer has not been established. The holding time is dynamically set and transmitted to the mobile communication device or has previously been set by the network and transmitted to the mobile communication device. The method prevents overloading caused by continuously issued requests from mobile communication devices to a radio network controller (RNC).
