A telescopic column, which may be used to raise or lower a table, has an outer tube and an inner tube which move in a sliding relationship to one another. The tubes are actuated by a handle connected via a pair of bevel gears (Fig 3 items 27, 28) to a rotary screw which may be worm gear supported on a shaft (Fig 3 item 26) and a bearing (Fig 3 item 33) which in turn are all located within a bracket or housing assembly. The bracket may be attached to the outer tube via a fastening and hole. A channel like means may be disposed in a section cut out of the wall of the inner tube. Located on one side of the channel may be elongate member which may have a thread or tooth form corresponding to the worm gear, (Fig 4). The bracket or housing assembly may sit within the channel member, (Fig 3 and 4). Rotation of the handle causes the rotary member to travel along the threaded form and hence move the tubes with respect to one another. In an alternative form the elongate member may be attached to the outer tube and the bracket and rotary screw may be attached to the inner tube. The handle may be replaced by a motorised power drive. |
