PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the lowering of printing quality by eliminating fear such that a recording medium is contaminated with discarded ink when printing is applied to the start end or terminal end of the recording medium and both ends thereof without leaving a blank and certainly regulating the position of the recording medium at the time of printing. SOLUTION: An ink jet recording apparatus is equipped with a recording head having a nozzle array 2 wherein a large number of nozzles are arranged in a sub-scanning direction, a platen 3 provided in opposed relation to the recording head to regulate the position of the recording medium at a time of printing, a paper feed roller 8 and a paper discharge roller 9. The platen 3 has a first hole 11 provided to the surface thereof at the part opposed to the downstream part in the sub-scanning direction of the nozzle array 2 so as to guide ink 12 shifted from the start end 7 of the recording medium to be discharged when the start end 7 is printed without leaving a blank to the first hole 11. A second hole 13 is provided to the terminal end of recording paper. |
