After removing tape piece from surface of steel sheet, said piece is placed onto background surface for judging contamination degree of sheet at visual comparison of impression-replica with reference scale. Desirable length L of scotch tape piece consists of 0.08 -0.15 of width of controlled sheet. Width of said piece B0 = (0.10 - 0.15)L. ^ EFFECT: increased yield of high quality sheet after cold rolling, improved reliability of evaluated contamination degree of cold rolled sheet. ^ 1 ex
