The system has a measurement sensor (3) providing a signal representative of measurement of rotation speed of an engine, and a unit supplying a signal representative of a set point of the rotation speed. A developing module (4) produces an engine torque control signal from the signals representative of measurement of the rotation speed and set point of the rotation speed, respectively. The module has a differential control branch (7) and a gain control branch (8) with a connection (5) forming a feedback of the signal representative of measurement of the rotation speed. An independent claim is also included for a method of controlling an engine assembly of a motor vehicle.
