R1 : H or 1-11C alkyl; R2 : H or CH 3; R3 : CN or COR4; R4 : OH or OR5; R5 : 1-18C alkyl (optionally carry OH), 2-10C epoxyalkyl, 2-10C alkoxyalkyl, or NR6R7; and R6, R7 : H or 1-10C alkyl (optionally carry OH). (I) is obtained by a radical polymerization in an aqueous emulsion. M1 is a derivative of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer like: CH 2=CR14-COO(CH 2) i-PO(OH)(OR1); CH 2=CR14-COO(CH 2) i-O-CO(CH 2) 10PO(OH)(OR1); CH 2= CR14-CO-O-CH 2-C(CH 3)(OH)-PO(OH)(OR1); CH 2=CR14-CO-O-NH-CO-O(CH 2) i-PO(OH)(OR1); CH 2=CR14-CO-O-CH 2-CH 2-NH-CO-O(CH 2) i-PO(OH)(OR1); CH 2=CR14-CO-O(CH 2) iN(C(CH 3) 3)-CH 2-PO(OH)(OR1); CH 2=CR14-CO-O-(CH 2) i-O-CO(CH 2) 10-N(CH 2-PO(OH)(OR1)) 2; CH 2=CR14-CO-O(CH2) 5-NCH 2-PO(OH)(OR1) 2; CH 2=CR14-C 6H 4-C(CH 3) 2-NH-CO-O(CH 2) i-PO(OH)(OR1); CH 2=CH-C 6H 4-CH 2-PO(OH)(OR1), where the aromatic ring substituted at ortho or para position; CH 2=CH-PO(OH)(OR1); or PO(OR 1)(OR 2) where after total or partial cleavage (particularly hemihydrolysis cleavage) lead to phosphonate group of formula PO(OH)(OR 1>). M1 is present at greater than 0.5-50 wt.%. M2 is present at greater than 50-99.5 wt.%. The (meth)acrylic acid monomer is methyl (meth)acrylate, ethyl (meth)acrylate, n-butyl (meth)acrylate, 2-ethyl hexyl (meth)acrylate, 2-hydroxyethyl (meth)acrylate, glycidyl (meth)acrylate or methacrylic acid. (II) is obtained by a radical polymerization in an aqueous emulsion or as a solution in a solvent. (II) is present at 65 wt.%. R14 : H or CH 3; i : 1-20; R 1>H or 1-2C alkyl; and R 1, R 21-11C alkyl. #CMT#EXAMPLE : #/CMT# Homopolystyrene (0.625 g), Dowfax 2Al(RTM: Anionic alkylated diphenyl oxide di-sulfonated type surfactant) (0.004 g), methyl methacrylate (2 g) and demineralized water (29.4 g) were introduced in to a reactor to form a mixture. The temperature was raised to 80[deg]C and then ammonium persulfate (0.125 g) was reacted with the mixture for 10 minutes. A pre-emulsion containing water (28 g), methyl methacrylate (20 g), 2-methyl-acrylic acid phosphonomethyl ester (3 g) and Dowfax 2Al(RTM: Anionic alkylated diphenyl oxide di-sulfonated type surfactant) (0.375 g) was added in drops for 2 hours to give the dispersion.
