PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a collision avoidance support system, collision avoidance support method, and computer program, capable of controlling operations of respective devices so as to be safe even in error operations caused by panic handling, when there are high risks of collision, on the basis of calculated results of possible collision with other vehicles or obstacles. SOLUTION: In the collision avoidance support system, comprising a means for applying image recognition processing by obtaining image data photographed by an infrared imaging device for imaging the outside of a vehicle and a means for determining possibility of collision with the obstacle, by calculating a relative position of the obstacle to the vehicle, when calculating the presence of the obstacle in the image data based on the processed results, the collision avoidance support system also comprises a means for calculating the index value indicating possibility of collision, a means for deciding whether the calculated index value is higher than the designated value, and a means for transmitting instruction signals which restrain motions against motions for avoiding the obstacle to a control unit for controlling operations of respective devices mounted on the vehicle, when it is decided that the calculated index value is higher.
