PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently impress overdrive pulses. SOLUTION: Each pixel has a holding capacity 114 to which a video voltage taken in from a data line DL is written and a liquid crystal element 112 to which the voltage held by the holding capacity 114 is applied. Then, immediately after the end start of video voltage write to the holding capacity 114, capacity lines SC-A and SC-B are shifted by the overdrive pulses and the voltage applied to a liquid crystal is made larger than the voltage desired to be actually applied to the liquid crystal.
