PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a throw away insert capable of being used in a heavy duty cutting having a severer cutting condition by reducing cutting resistance without deteriorating the strength of a cutting edge. SOLUTION: The throw away insert 1 comprises a plurality of first divided main cutting edges 5A divided by a main groove part 6 having a main cutting edge 5 on the flank 4 formed in approximately polygonal plate shapes, having a cutting face 3 on an upper surface, a seating surface 2 on a lower surface, a flank 4 on a side surface, and the main cutting edge 5 formed at a crossed ridge parts between the cutting face 3 and the flank 4. The throw away insert 1 has a sub groove part 6 further dividing the first divided main cutting edge 5A and forming a plurality of the second divided main cutting edge 5a.
