Piperidines of the general formula (I), the N-oxide forms, the pharmaceutically acceptable addition salts and the stereochemically isomeric forms thereof, wherein Alk is C1-C6alkanediyl; n is 1 or 2; X1 is -O -, -S(=O)- or -S(=O)2-; each R1 is independently hydrogen, halogen, C1-C6alkyl, nitro, hydroxy or C1-C4alkyloxy; D is an optionally substituted mono-, bi- or tricyclic nitrogen containing heterocycle, a 2H-benzopyranone, a benzamide, a benzophenone or a phenoxyphenyl; a process for their preparation, the pharmaceutical compositions containing them and their use as a medicament. Tricyclic delta3-piperidines have central alpha2-adrenoceptor antagonist activity.
