PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high quality color picture having no color shift and no color slippage. SOLUTION: An imaging optical system is characterized in that the system has power along a main scanning direction so that the height of an image H (mm) corresponding to the swing angleθ(rad) of an oscillating mirror is decided by the relation H=(Hs/2πfTs)×Sin^-1ä(1-k)×(θ/θ0)}, where k stands for a constant set corresponding to respective heights of image satisfying the condition 0≤k<1,θ0 (rad) stands for the maximum swing angle of an oscillating mirror, f (Hz) stands for a scanning frequency, Hs (mm) stands for the height of an image which detects a light beam, and Ts (sec) stands for the scanning time with the light beam from the point on an axis (height of image H=0) to the height Hs of a detected image.
