PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device capable of reducing power consumption by suitably restraining dissipation of heat from a heat source, such as a heating rotation body, and hence dissipation of heat from external covers, and also capable of ensuring satisfactory operability for removal of a jam. SOLUTION: The ends (51a, 52a) of each external cover (5) facing the area where paper (P) passes are formed so as to be in contact with a heat reflecting plate (4) with the exception where other components (7) are used as substitution. Further, parts of the external covers (5) are formed as an opening/closing cover (55) so that a space for the passage (E) of the paper (P) is increased and so that when the opening/closing cover (55) is closed, its leading end (55a) is brought into contact with the heat reflecting plate (4).
