A weft knitting machine, comprising a movable yarn guide capable of preventing a knitting fabric from being damaged by the catch of a yarn. Since the advancement of the movable yarn guide (1) to a tip part (5) is reduced near a position where the yarn is fed from a yarn feed port (10a), the yarn can be fed smoothly and the catch of the yarn by sliders (7b, 8b) can be prevented from occurring. Since the advancement of the movable yarn guide (1) to the tip part (5) is increased near a position where the yarn is received by hooks (7c, 8c), the yarn can be securely caught by the hooks (7c, 8c). When needle bodies (7a, 8a) are pulled into needle beds (3, 4) and stitch loops are formed by the hooks (7c, 8c) and the tip edge (6b) of a sinker (6), a guide part (1a) at the tip of the movable yarn guide is driven so as to be retreated from the tip part (5) to a position where the sinker (6) forms a sinker loop, and therefore the lower end of the guide part (1a) capable of securely forming the sinker loop at the angle determination position of the sinker (6) is extended to cover a tongue (8d) so as to prevent the yarn from being caught.
